In the meantime, advice about best practice—beyond what has been alluded to here—is out there for the taking. David Meer [of Marakon Associates] and Daniel Yankelovoich co-authored an article for the Harvard Business Review, "Rediscovering Mar-keting Segmentation."
In it, the authors offer advice such as, "You can purchase usage data on customers, supplement them with survey data, and analyze channel preferences to help with new product development," says Meer.
