In 1996 a small group of Americans returning from London teamed up with some new recruits to establish Marakon's presence in the Second City. Nearly 10 years later the makeup of the team may have changed (though there are still a handful of the original settlers), but the office is strong and growing. Located in the North Loop area overlooking the Chicago River, approximately 30 consultants and 10 functional staff form the current team. Given our smallish size, we place a great deal of importance on a strong, well-connected culture. Top of the list of desired cultural characteristics is fun, and we foster this through regular social events, table tennis tournaments, semi-annual Whirlyball outings and a steadily improving softball team. We also value our diversity, with the continuing aim of establishing a mix of backgrounds and styles that matches the city itself.

Our central location in North America has always offered consultants a unique variety in terms of their client options. Despite those frustrating springtime thunderstorm delays, the O’Hare airport provides one stop travel to almost anywhere, meaning we regularly have people on spread out on case teams across the U.S., Canada and even further abroad. For those who prefer to stay closer to home, we have been steadily improving both the breadth and depth of our client portfolio in Chicago and the Midwest. Our mix of clients is as diverse as our travels, with work in a range of industries, including healthcare, financial services, light and heavy industrials, aerospace and consumer goods. Through both client work and internal efforts, our consultants are helping to push the boundaries of our practice, with a recent emphasis on the development and execution of strategies to drive profitable growth through both external and organic means.
